Happy new year! It is time for a new version of the Remindor Apps, v14.01. This latest version bring Pushbullet notifications. Pushbullet is a service that allows you to send notifications between its Android, Chrome, and Firefox apps. The Puhsbullet Android app can also mirror your Android notifications to your computer. Both Indicator Remindor and Remindor-Qt both have the option to send notifications via Pushbullet, all you need is to enter you api key in Preferences and select a device you want to receive a reminder.
Also, there are some exciting things happening in development. I’m currently rewriting some of the core code for the remindor-common package (the shared code between Indicator Remindor and Remindor-Qt). Not only will this rewrite bring more organized code that is easier to update, but it will also bring some great new features: notifications of missed reminders (like when your computer is off during a scheduled reminder) and a new date option that allows you to specify dates similar to “every monday, wednesday, friday”. Look forward to these updates in the upcoming months.
As always please report any bugs you might find. Enjoy the latest version of the Remindor Apps!
Just a quick update, I’ve added packages for Ubuntu 13.10 to the ppa, enjoy!
Just a small update, fixing a bug that sometimes prevented opening the Add Reminder window. And also adding a new translation, Slovenian! A big thanks to Damir Jerovšek and Sasa Batistic for their work on it!
Also, for the brave, I have uploaded packages for saucy (13.10) to the remindor testing ppa. In all reality they should work fine, but I haven’t had a chance to test them yet.
Enjoy version 13.08.2!
This morning I uploaded version 13.08.1 of indicator-remindor, remindor-qt, and remindor-common to the ppa. The only thing different in 13.08.1 is that the command execution has been upgraded to work with pipes (|) and redirects (>). Enjoy!
If you find any bugs or would like to suggest a new feature, let me know.
It has been a while, but finally the latest version of Indicator Remindor and Remindor-Qt, version 13.08, is here!
The biggest new feature is Simple Reminders. Simple Reminders allow you to specify a reminder all on one line. Here are some examples:
- exercise every 3 days at 6 pm
- meet bob at 6:15am
- go to the store in 20 minutes
- travel home on next monday
Simple Reminders are all keyboard, so you don’t have to click around on various different options. For more information checkout the in app documentation or the online documentation.
And just to clarify any confusion, Standard Reminders, Quick Reminders, and the new Simple Reminders are only different ways of entering reminders into the program. Once Indicator Remindor or Remindor-Qt process and store the reminders they all look the same. They are just different ways of specifying a reminder (with different settings under Preferences).
Also new in version 13.08 is French and UK English translations! I’ve added credits for translators in the about dialog of each app, a big thanks to them! Dialog notifications are now formatted differently, the label is bold in the body of the dialog along with the note (it use to be in the title of the dialog, where it got swallowed up). Linux Mint has received special attention this version: the help buttons have been fixed along with the icons. The help buttons in Indicator Remindor under Linux Mint use to direct people to the Linux Mint documentation, but that’s not very helpful for Indicator Remindor! Now the buttons open a browser window with a local version of the Remindor documentation. Additionally the icons on Linux Mint’s Cinnamon panel were reversed (dark icon on dark panel) but now they should be correct (light icon on dark panel).
Under the hood Indicator Remindor and Remindor-Qt are both now using a json file to save configurations rather than the sqlite database that also hosts the reminders. The json file just makes things a bit easier on me programming.
It has been a few months since the last big release, unfortunately big life changes have kept me very busy! Between my son, a new job, buying a house, and generally trying to keep my sanity, I don’t have as much free time as I once did. But if you find bugs, report them and I’ll make them a high priority! There may be more time between releases but the project is not dead.
If you haven’t heard the second Ubuntu App Showdown is underway. Unfortunately I won’t have time to participate this year, but I would encourage anyone interested in programming to participate!
As always, get the latest fresh from the ppa! If you enjoy using Indicator Remindor or Remindor-Qt consider contributing back in some way, it doesn’t have to be a donation (although I have begun accepting Bitcoins and Litecoins)! And you can always catch me on twitter.
Just a quick update, there have been several bug fixes to Indicator Remindor and remindor-common.
- Fixed uri’s not being presented on the manage window
- Fixed about window not showing
- Fixed crash when reminder is more than 2 months out
- Fixed issue in saving sound length
- Fixed bug #1177758 where times could be missing ‘to’
Also Remindor-Qt is nicely progressing towards a stable Windows release. Look forward to it!
Indicator Remindor has been bumped up to version 13.03.1 to fix a critical bug in date/time parsing (Remindor-Qt and remindor-common remain unaffected). Additionally, I have tested and uploaded packages for Raring in the PPA. If you have any issues with the Raring packages please post bug reports!
I have also set up a testing PPA - ppa:bhdouglass/remindor-testing - which currently houses the package for the Ubuntu Touch/QML version of Remindor - Remindor Touch. There is not much to Remindor Touch yet, but you are welcome to check it out, or browse the source on GitHub. You’ll need the PPAs detailed here for the needed packages.
